Promote a Human Rights Convention for Older Persons

The Sub-Committee to Promote a Human Rights Convention for Older Persons has the responsibility to engage NGOS in consultative status with ECOSOC (and interested others) in supporting a convention, particularly in the context of the work of the Open-Ended Working Group on Ageing (OEWGA).  The Sub-Committee monitors ageing issues at the United Nations, studying and understanding earlier convention strategies; prepares and delivers statements at relevant meetings; prepares advocacy material; visits Permanent Missions to urge their support; organizes like-minded NGOS in a common effort toward a multi-lateral legally binding instrument to protect the rights of older persons.  The Sub-Committee works closely with the Global Alliance on the Rights of Older People (GAROP): http://www.rightsofolderpeople.org/
