HLPF2020

2020 High Level Political Forum, 7-16 July 2020

• Because of the pandemic, the HLPF will be held virtually this year.  All information, including key documents, programme, list of side events etc. can be found here:  https://sustainabledevelopment.un.org/hlpf/2020

• The programme-at-a-glance can be found here.  The more detailed programme is on the abovementioned website.

• The Stakeholder Group on Ageing (SGA) Position Paper submitted to the HLPF can be found here

• Only designated speakers will be permitted into the Webex official meetings.   Everyone else will have to watch on UN Web TV (no registration needed):  http://webtv.un.org/

• The session at which SGA will have a designated speaker (Jane Miano, speaking on behalf of SGA and Stakeholder Group of Persons with Disabilities) is on Tuesday, 7 July, from 2-3 p.m, in the segment "protecting and advancing human wellbeing and ending poverty".  The statement to be delivered can be found here.  Jane Barratt, Secretary-General of International Federation on Ageing, contributed to the background document for this segment, here.

• The SGA has also organized a side event which will take place also on Tuesday 7 July, from 12-1:30 p.m. EDT/6-7.30 p.m. CET.    REGISTRATION IS REQUIRED. See first item on this Home Page

• For all other side events held during the HLPF, please go to this link:  https://sustainabledevelopment.un.org/hlpf/2020#programme where listing and registration links are available for each day.  If any NGO COA member is attending side events, it would be helpful if you could take note of governments or NGOs that refer to "older persons" and let us know so that we can use this information for follow-up with them when we do our advocacy work.

• Also on Tuesday, 7 July, from 4-5 p.m. EDT, the official segment for the Major Groups and Other Stakeholder (of which the Stakeholder Group on Ageing is a member) will be speaking on "Transformative pathways to realize the 2030 Agenda: a whole of society approach taking into account the impact of COVID-19".

• Gray Panthers interns are involved in reviewing the Voluntary National Reports and preparing questions.

• The Ministerial Declaration to be adopted by the HLPF is still being negotiated - efforts have been made to ensure that at least one reference to older persons is included.

• A short summary of the challenges has been issued by the Global Policy Watch on "2020 HLPF, one decade to go:  tinkering or transformation?",  available here.
